Some thoughts on Intelligence

One of the indictments of civilizations is that happiness and intelligence are so rarely found in the same person.
William Feather (1908 - 1976)

To believe in God or in a guiding force because someone tells you to is the height of stupidity. We are given senses to receive our information within. With our own eyes we see, and with our own skin we feel. With our intelligence, it is intended that we understand. But each person must puzzle it out for himself or herself.
Sophy Burnham

So it is that the gods do not give all men gifts of grace - neither good looks nor intelligence nor eloquence.
Homer (800 BC - 700 BC)

Do not fight verbosity with words: speech is given to all, intelligence to few.
Moralia

One of my favorite quotes, sort of looking at things from the other side:

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." --Albert Einstein

I liked all of the quotes, each one had something that caused me to think a little, and that's always a good thing.

Bookend - I knew you would like those. I was chatting with you earlier when I looked them up, it was you I had on my mind when I posted them.

Miroka - I agree, the Moralia one is one we are all forced to confront when we do something as simple as getting behind the wheel. The rarity of intelligence becomes screamingly obvious at that time.

Bill - I love all these quotes, but my favorite is the age old one you have in your profile. That is the one I live by :)
